Free our education policy from the control of lawmakers

According to today’s newspaper Maharashtra government is trying to make English and Mathematics as optional subjects after class 8. The reason for planning to do so is that many students fail in these two subjects in their standard 10 board examinations.

The education minister of the state has cited an example of a professor of some reputed school (J J School of Arts) who it seems had dropped mathematics in his high school and therefore could pass the board examination. I would like to mention that Rabindranath Tagore, the famous poet of Bengal did not even complete his school education.

These kinds of examples should not be used to formulate any policy.

We need a uniform policy for education across all states and there should be a body like education commission (like election commission) which should formulate our education policy.
